Tina TURNER Live Olympia Paris 1971 "Respect''

Proud Mary

I was thinking about the phenomenon that is Tina's version of Proud Mary. Tina must hold some kind of record for this song - what other singer has performed the same song live for four decades? Amazing really, when you think about it.

Ike & Tina Turner first released the song in 1971, but by then they had already used the song on stage for at least a couple of years.

This was the oldest clip I could find... and this must also be one of the oldest recorded versions of them performing Proud Mary:

1969 - at Playboy After Dark (skip to 07:25). The nice and easy parth had not yet been worked out here.

1971 and Tina has added the speach and the nice and easy part.

1979. Finally on her own and Tina says "People ask me when am I gonna slow down. You know what I tell them? I'm just getting started"

1982. Worker her way back to the top and she's taking Proud Mary with her.

1990. At the top of her carrier. And Proud Mary is not leaving her side.

2000. Proud Mary is rolling into the new millennium.

2009. Proud Mary (as us Tina fans know her) celebrates 40 years. Tina celebrates 70 years on earth and 50 years on stage. Two legendary ladies that is!

I got a reply from the creator of the Romanian Tina Turner Blog. Just wanted to let you know, so you don't think that the blog is for Romanian speaking people only:

silversky  about TT Blogs and Facebook groups:
Thanks for mentioning the site !

Only the first two articles are in Romanian, the rest of them are in English too and in the future I plan to write all the articles in both languages, so all the fans can read them. :)

TT Blogs and Facebook groups

Did you know there is actually a Tina Turner blog in Romanian? Yep, it's filled with news and articles about the Queen. Some of the posts are translated to Engling so it's worth a look even if you don't know Romanian.

Here's the link: http://tinaturneromania.wordpress.com

And if you're a Facebook member I have to recommend a group for all you Tina fans out there. It's called The Global Tina Turner Fan Club. It recently got a new administrator and is since then filled with new, photos and videos. If you're not yet a member, here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=2205093262

Oprah about Tina

Oprah talks about following Tina on tour:

River Deep live at Taratata

This clip was new to me, but I have to say that I think it's the best version of River Deep Mountain High I've heard since the 1966 version of the song. I think the orchestra helps bring out Tina's powerful voice even more.

More photos from the Armani show

Here are some cute photos of Tina leaving the Armani show. A little too much Crystal perhaps :)

Interview with Tina at the Armani show

Another world tour? Maybe, says Tina Turner

Article from Reuters:

Sitting in the front row at the Giorgio Armani Prive fashion show in Paris on Monday, the 70-year-old looked radiant in a sparkling black top that revealed ample cleavage, her trademark mass of curls piled up high.

"People wanted to see me, so many were holding signs up saying, Thank You," she said of her 2008 tour, which grossed $47.7 million.

"I haven't made a decision yet," she told Reuters when asked if she would stage another tour. "I didn't make a plan for a big tour, with big stadiums. I'm not saying I won't do it, get the girls out and do something, but I haven't decided."

Turner has for decades been one of the world's most successful performers, roaring out hits like "Simply The Best" and "What's Love Got To Do With It" in stage-stomping, high-octane concerts.

At Armani, as models prepared backstage for an haute couture show of sweeping white gowns and folded skirt suits, Turner said she liked simple clothes for everyday wear but still had a passion for racy outfits.

"My favorites are short skirts that work for heavy dancing," she said. "I have a short torso, and it looks better with a short skirt."

And even if another exhausting round of concerts is not imminent, waiting fans may console themselves with the prospect of a new album.

"Recording is something that's always easier than touring. I wouldn't mind, but nothing's come my way right now and that's fine," Turner said with a smile.

Unfazed by the scrum of photographers around her, she said while she loved performing in public, she could see the advantages of a more quiet life.

"I have dinner parties, I can go to parties, there's more freedom when you're not working," she said. "I'm just enjoying life."
